To celebrate Refugee Week Strathfield Council, in partnership with The Smith Family Inner West Grants Program, ran an art project titled “Earth as Art: How I Got Here”.

As a part of this project, a series of art workshops were conducted for children from CALD and refugee backgrounds. These workshops aimed to enable the children to learn new art skills; interact with different cultures harmoniously; and create lasting artwork for the community which symbolised expressions of community identity, cultural cohesiveness and cultural diversity within Strathfield.

Upon completion of the workshops the children’s artworks were exhibited in the “Earth as Art: How I Got Here” Exhibition at Strathfield Library from the 20th – 26th of June. This exhibition allowed the community to view meaningful pieces of art created by children in their community and aided in increasing the awareness and tolerance of refugee and migrant issues.
