iBIMS™ - The Digital Link @ Willoughby City Library

Willoughby City Council

iBIMS Welcome Screen on the Web

Library and Information Services - Award Winner Division C

iBIMS™ the Intelligent Book Information Management System, is the first bilingual web-based OPAC, bridging the communication gap between Chinese speaking patrons and librarians who cannot speak the language for accessing the Chinese language collection. It can be run on any PC, handheld device and any Smartphone with a web browser and internet connection. It is developed by Kairos International, the same company who introduced the predecessor BIMS™ at Willoughby City Library in 1997. iBIMS™ is currently in use in Willoughby City Library for searching its 12,000 Chinese language items.

In June 2010 Willoughby City Library in the North Shore of Sydney introduced a new innovative library service - a Chinese OPAC (iBIMS™) available via the internet. The overwhelming response from the community is testimonial to the success of this advanced use of technology.

To access iBIMS™, please visit http://www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Library.html. From the side menu under Library, click on “Chinese OPAC (iBIMS)”.
