Reflections through Storytelling

Kogarah City Council (1 other project)

Cornelius O'Brien with Kogarah High School Students Toby Conran & Ebony Holmwood

In Reflections through Storytelling - individual’s narratives’ are explored and connections established to challenge and develop people’s understanding of the diverse makeup and experiences of the Kogarah community.

This project has two distinct elements. The stories of local people were collected and exhibited, more specifically migrant women, with the Migrant Stories Project, and returned servicemen and women, with the Remembrance Day Project.

Migrant Stories explores the experience of 8 migrant women and the challenges they faced settling into a new community to mark Community Harmony Day in 2010.

Remembrance Day 2010 was commemorated with the launch of an intergenerational project bringing together local young people and seniors. The Remembrance Day Project exhibition documents the filmed interviews students from Kogarah High School conducted with seven veterans.

It is about the stories, and the people involved – the meeting of two different generations, cultures and life times – finding common ground, warmth and humour.
